Overview

New Junior Principal Investigator at BayBatt

04.07.2025

Dr. Liang-Yin Kuo

On 1 July, Dr Liang-Yin Kuo took up a position as Junior Principal Investigator at BayBatt.

Dr. Kuo completed her bachelor's and master's degrees in chemical engineering at Tamkang University and the National Taiwan University of Science and Technology in Taiwan, respectively. She wrote her doctoral thesis at the Free University of Berlin in theoretical chemistry on the topic ‘Effect of Substitution and Doping on Cathode Materials in Li- and Na-based Batteries: First Principles Study’. Since 2022, she has been working as an assistant professor at the Department of Chemical Engineering at Ming Chi University of Technology in Taiwan. She has also spent extended periods abroad at the Institute of Energy and Climate Research at Forschungszentrum Jülich (Germany) and the Institute of Energy and Hydrocarbon Chemistry at Kyoto University (Japan).

As part of her postdoctoral position at BayBatt, Dr Kuo will focus on the design and discovery of novel materials for future energy storage devices by computational methods. Her research involves detailed analyses of chemical and mechanical stability, diffusion mechanisms, and Raman spectroscopy. Through multiscale simulations, she investigates material properties at various scales, including bulk, surface, grain boundaries, and interfaces. Dr Kuo's work at BayBatt will be supervised by Prof. Dr. Harald Oberhofer, Chair of Theoretical Physics VII.

BayBatt supports young scientists on the postdoctoral level through Junior Principal Investigator positions. These are intended for young scientists who have completed their doctorate within the last five years. The positions are each linked to a mentorship by a BayBatt member and are intended to enable young scientists to obtain a postdoctoral qualification in the field of battery research, while at the same time allowing them to supervise their own doctoral students. Dr Kuo holds the third Junior Principal Investigator position, while the other two positions are currently held by Dr Helen Grüninger and Dr Qingsong Wang in the field of inorganic chemistry.

We are delighted to welcome Dr Kuo to BayBatt and look forward to supporting her further scientific career!
