Graduate of M.Sc. Batterietechnik receives VDE award

23.10.2025

On 18 October 2025, graduates of the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Bayreuth celebrated a special milestone together with their families and friends: almost 200 students earned a bachelor's or master's degree in engineering in the 2024/2025 academic year, 27 others completed their doctorates in engineering, and one more engineer successfully completed his habilitation process. The celebration with the ceremonial presentation of congratulatory certificates took place in the university's main lecture hall.

Numerous prizes and awards were presented at the ceremony. Prof. Dr.-Ing. Gerhard Fischerauer (VDE Bavaria  pokesperson for Upper Franconia) honoured Niklas Feistel, M.Sc., who completed his studies in Batterietechnik with distinction, with the VDE Graduate Award.

Niklas Feistel wrote his master's thesis at the Chair of Electrical Energy Systems (Prof. Danzer) on the topic of "Investigation of the storage mechanisms of Na-ions in commercial Na-ion batteries". To this end, he used differential voltage analysis, operando EIS  and experimental cells to investigate the storage mechanisms of Na-ions in commercial Na-ion batteries and derived operating strategies from this.

Feistel emphasised that working in the laboratory for his Master's thesis was one of the highlights of his Master's programme in Bayreuth. Starting in November, he will work in Vienna for the Austrian company AVILOO Battery Diagnostics GmbH as a battery scientist/engineer in research and development.
