Volkswagen Master's Scholarship for Students of the M.Sc. Batterietechnik
23.06.2026
Last year, two students of the M.Sc. Batterietechik program were awarded a Volkswagen Master’s Scholarship. We would like to extend our warmest congratulations on this achievement and hope to make this opportunity available to future students in our master’s programmes as well. Applications for the scholarship will open again on July 1, so we asked the current scholarship holders how the selection process works and what benefits the scholarship offers.
BayBatt: How did the selection process for the scholarship work?
- After submitting a standard application via the Volkswagen careers page—including a resume, a certificate of enrollment for the Master’s program (if applicable), and a creative submission (optional)—we were invited to an online interview in a relaxed atmosphere. There was also a general online information session where questions about the scholarship were answered.
BayBatt: What benefits (besides the financial ones) does the master’s scholarship offer you?
- Mentoring from the very beginning: The scholarship gives us access to networking events that provide insights into one of the world’s largest automobile manufacturers. In addition, we can get advice on resumes and applications from experts within the company. VW also offers the opportunity to gain valuable practical experience through a master’s thesis or an internship. Unfortunately, however, we haven’t yet been able to find a chair at the University of Bayreuth that would supervise a master’s thesis at VW, so we likely won’t be able to take advantage of this opportunity.
BayBatt: What events have you been able to attend so far?
- In addition to an onboarding session and a fireside evening in Wolfsburg, several remote events have also taken place. As part of these events, for example, we were able to attend various technical presentations, take a factory tour, and even try the famous Volkswagen currywurst in the cafeteria. In addition, a summer party and an Online Connection Day are coming up soon.
BayBatt: What did you particularly like about these?
- The in-depth insights into the company, the opportunity to network with students from other disciplines who are in a similar situation, and the chance to build a professional network early on within the company.
BayBatt: What advice would you give to future applicants?
- Stay true to yourselves and seize this opportunity. After all, batteries are a key technology for our future.
Every year, VW offers up to 50 scholarships to master’s students in all fields of study. In 2025, however, the company approached the University of Bayreuth and BayBatt for the first time, as it was specifically interested in applications from (prospective) master’s students in Batterietechnik or Battery Materials & Technology. The scholarship provides master’s students with a monthly stipend of 950 euros over a period of two years (the standard duration of the master’s program) and also offers the opportunity to build a network, exchange ideas, and gain practical experience. Provided they graduate with good grades and there are suitable open positions at the company, scholarship recipients will also receive a concrete offer for a permanent position at VW upon completing their studies.
The current application period is July 1–August 31, 2026. Anyone who has not yet started their master’s programme or is in the first semester of their master’s programme is eligible to apply. Since the application process and subsequent events as part of the scholarship are conducted primarily in German, applicants must have German language proficiency at the C1 level. You can find all information about the scholarship and the application process here.
Applications for the master’s programs in Batterietechnik and Battery Materials & Technology, starting in the winter semester of 2026/27, are still open until July 15. Click here to access the application portal.
So here’s our recommendation: Submit your application for a spot in the master’s programme, secure your admission, and then apply for the VW Master’s Scholarship to ensure you have the funding you need for your master’s studies!
We look forward to receiving your applications!
