Taiwanese delegation at UBT

From June 13 to 21, the Department of Chemical Engineering at Ming Chi University of Technology (MCUT) in Taiwan organized an oversears field study program to the University of Bayreuth and BayBatt.

During the eight-day excursion, the group—consisting of seven students and two professors from MCUT—had the opportunity to tour the laboratories and academic buildings at the University of Bayreuth and BayBatt, participate in specialized academic session in the fields of physics, chemistry, and engineering, engage in discussions with researchers and students at BayBatt, and at the same time experience German and Franconian culture.

A particularly intensive exchange, featuring group discussions and laboratory tours, took place with the research groups led by Prof. Dr. Harald Oberhofer (Theoretical Physics VII), Prof. Dr.-Ing. Christina Roth (Electrochemical Process Engineering), and Prof. Dr. Nella Vargas-Barbosa (Physical Chemistry VI).

In addition, Prof. He-Yun Du and Prof. Kim-Hoong Ng from MCUT presented their current research on the topics “Linking Structure and Local Electrochemical Activity in 2D Materials” and “Type-I Heterojunction for Improving Photovoltaic Activity” at the BayBatt seminar. The students learned about the master’s program “Battery Materials & Technology” (M.Sc.) and toured the Keylab BayBatt Cell Technology Center.

Additionally, the group had the opportunity to experience the Wagner city of Bayreuth and, before their departure, to explore the metropolis of Frankfurt.

On the Bayreuth side, the study visit was organized by Dr. Liang-Yin Kuo, Junior Principal Investigator at the Chair of Theoretical Physics VII at BayBatt. Before Dr. Kuo joined BayBatt last year, she spent three years as an assistant professor at MCUT, where she was also responsible for student recruitment.

We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Dr. Kuo for organizing this exchange! Furthermore, special thanks to all colleagues and collaborators, especially Dr. Jing Guo and Dr. Bianca Helm who made this international exchange possible and truly inspiring. We hope it was a scientifically and personally enriching experience for everyone involved, and we look forward to further visits in the coming years!
