Group discussions during the semester kickoff event at BayBatt.

The University of Bayreuth is kicking off the 2026/27 winter semester with a significant increase in first-semester enrollment: 1,220 first-year students have enrolled. The proportion of international students has also risen, from 20.4% last year to 22.2% now.

The master’s programs at BayBatt are contributing to this growth: 26 new students from 10 countries have enrolled in the programs for the current semester. The new students were welcomed during the first week of classes at a joint orientation event led by the program moderators, Prof. Dr. Bianchini and Prof. Dr.-Ing. Schmidt.

On October 22, the semester kickoff event took place at BayBatt, where students had the opportunity to get to know their fellow students from higher semesters. Together with doctoral students and faculty members from BayBatt, they discussed topics such as “Research at BayBatt,” “Industry Internships and Collaborations,” and “Student Life in Bayreuth.” Afterward, participants had the opportunity to tour the laboratories and workshops of various research groups at BayBatt. With around 60 participants, the event was very well attended.
